Artist statement: "In developing my idea for this painting, I was fascinated by the beautiful remnants that had fallen from native oaks in the aftermath of a tropical storm. I wanted to elevate these bits and pieces of living and dead plant material into a plant portrait. This piece is typical of some of my favorite works, which I would describe as intimate plant portraits painted from life."
